We've decided to go on a healthy food kick. We want to be able to go fish and catch our dinner but since we didn't have the time and the water was a little murky yesterday, we decided to just make it a sushi night! While in Albuquerque, we found a nice little sushi place that we loved to go to. They made great sushi and the prices were reasonable.... so we thought until last night! We went to The Land of Food and bought what we needed to make California Rolls. I had made rice a few hours earlier, before we knew we were going to make sushi... the only thing is, we eat brown rice instead of white rice (part of our healthy food kick plus we just love brown rice so much better!) So we borrowed a cup of white rice from the neighbors and started cooking it. Since we had everything but the rice ready, we thought, lets just make 1 with brown rice while we're waiting and then the rest we'll make with the white rice. We figured it would come out, just not as good as normal and it might fall apart pretty easy because its not as sticky. To our surprise, it was AMAZING! it wasn't too crumbly and it added another texture and was absolutely delicious!!! We made 2 more rolls before the other rice was even done cooking. And its a good thing it turned out so good... we added a little too much water so it wasn't the best rice. So here are a couple pictures to feast your eyes on!
The preparation...
And the finished product!
Oh yeah... we also figured out how much it cost us to make each roll and it came out to $0.97!!! what a great deal! and it was fun to make it ourselves too! Thanks dad for teaching me how to make these so many years ago... why didn't I make them before? We're definately going to be making them a lot now!
